Fluoride is GONE at CHETI Primary and Secondary

It’s official! There is no longer fluoride in the drinking water at CHETI Primary and CHETI Secondary!

A big thank you to everyone who supported our World Water Day 2019 Campaign, and special thanks to Tom and Alex who completed a Triathlon and Andrew who ran the Manchester Marathon to support this project.

Thanks to this support, we have been able to install 11 new rainwater harvesting tanks across the CHETI Primary and Secondary site. Since the short rains in October, we have already been able to significantly reduce the expensive water deliveries to the site using the Made With Hope tractor. Now we are waiting for the main rainy season in March to totally fill the tanks.

Through funding from One Kind Act, we will be adding 7 further tanks at CHETI, and once this building work has been completed we hope that CHETI will have enough water to meet their needs year-round.

Before we started this project, students at CHETI we drinking water delivered by the Made With Hope tractor. This water was drawn from the Arusha mains, and had a fluoride level of 7.6mg/l, well above WHO guidelines, risking damage to teeth, bones and brain development.

Rainwater does not contain fluoride, and reducing the amount of fluoride consumed by students was one of the main health outcomes we wanted to achieve through this project.

We are delighted to announce that we have tested the water’s fluoride content at an Arusha lab, and the water supplied by the new tanks at CHETI is officially fluoride free!
