CHETI Primary School & Girls Boarding House

CHETI Primary School & Girls Boarding House are located in the rural village of Nadasoito in Arusha, Tanzania where there is no access to fresh drinking water, no electricity and no public transport. The local community are mainly part of the Massai tribe, living in a mix of mud huts and rented brick homes consisting of one or two rooms. The majority of adults are illiterate and earn less than $50 a month.

We’ve supported this school in the following four programmes:

Let Us Learn:
School Builds

  • Built and continue to support a girls boarding house for 24 girls orphans whilst at school, increasing attendance by over 50%.

  • Built 5 classrooms to reduce class sizes from 1:85 to 1:45

  • Provided more than 100 textbooks to improve learning.

Water Is Life:
Clean Water

  • Supplied a tractor to carry water to the school and boarding house because there was no water source.

Being Well:

  • Built 4 safe, private toilets and 4 showers at the girls dorm rooms

  • Installed 5 hand washing stations and ran health education workshops, decreasing sickness by 90%.

Lighten Up:
Clean light energy

  • Installation of solar lights at girls boarding house, increasing homework completion.

  • Provided 50 solar lamps for students to complete homework at home where there is no electricity

The Future Of This Partnership

We believe this school is going to give children a real chance of escaping the poverty cycle because the quality of education is so high. This is a long-term partnership that we will look to improve through the following projects by 2021.

  • Girls health education and menstruation facilities

  • Install rain water harvesting to collect drinking water
