MWH & Ndoto in Action working to improve over 10 schools

We have been working with communities and schools in rural Tazania since 2013. In these challenging times, Hussain Salim, our friend and colleague since 2019, believed that it was possible to cover a larger area and reach more children and schools and therefore started his own Organization, Ndoto in Action (NIA).

Made with Hope and NIA share a common goal to break the cycle of poverty through creating and improving access to quality education. NIA wants to empower children through education to be active participants in society and to enable opportunities for them.

NIA Volunteers

A note from NIA

Ndoto is a swahili word that means Dream and our main goal is to make the dreams of poor children in rural Tanzania come true. The sad reality in rural Tanzania is that the same dream can be shared by children that are in different areas and learning environments but they will experience very different outcomes. Tanzania has one of the lowest secondary enrolment ratios in the world, and the majority of places at public secondary schools are taken by children from the richer end of society, usually from urban areas. The majority of the poor in Tanzania live in rural areas and the quality of education in these areas has generally been extremely low. This has meant that few children from rural areas qualify for places in secondary school and, under the current level of provision, education provides very few of the poor with a viable pathway out of poverty. That is why our focus is on primary schools in rural Tanzania and we are currently recruiting and training a new team of 15 local volunteers to boost our efforts and kick-start a good number of SWASH, Menstrual Hygiene Management projects and English Programs, in 5 new schools.

MWH & NIA: Working together

We are currently working with NIA to launch our Christmas Appeal. This year we are fundraising to cover the materials and renovations of 9 classrooms at Marurani Primary School. The current classrooms at Marurani primary school have no windows and the roofs are in poor condition which exposes the children to the wind and rain. There is a lack of desks and chairs for children to learn at. This makes for an unsuitable learning environment for the children, preventing them from being inspired and engaged to achieve their best at school. We want to renovate these classrooms so that the children have a friendly and welcoming learning environment - and we need your support! You can read more about Marurani primary school below:

Our Christmas campaign is aiming to raise £23,551 to renovate 9 classrooms at Marurani primary school. NIA is working closely with the local community, who are committing their time and efforts to this project to ensure better access to education for their children. Your donation will contribute towards all the building and classroom materials required to transform these into inspiring classrooms.

A £15 donation can buy 1 blackboard.

A £25 donation can buy 1 desk.

A £50 donation can buy 7 windows or 1 lorry of sand.
