Core programme: Being Well

Constructed 11 hand washing stations with 138 taps

Hand washing education for over 5,000 students.

Our Aim for this project

We want to provide education on the importance of handwashing and provide the facilities to do so.

Newly constructed handwashing station at Mshikamano Primary

  • Installation of fully equipped handwashing stations and taps with soap.

  • Handwashing education programmes for students.

  • Healthy, happy children who are educated on the importance of hygiene!

What happens if this project doesn’t exist?

Children in our partner schools often don’t wash their hands because there is no water or soap available. This leads to the spread of germs and illness, leading to absence from school and ill health. This affects grades, and can be a reason that students can’t progress to secondary school. Illnesses like diarrhea and typhoid are a big problem. By simply washing hands regularly, this can be prevented. With access to soap and clean water, children are automatically safer and healthier. Hygiene is such an important right to all so it is truly imperative to provide the children with this necessity.

Our impact so far…

  • Constructed 11 hand washing stations!

  • 138 taps

  • Implemented a hand washing education programme for over 5,000 students!

One example of the implementation of our Being Well Programme is at Maweni Primary School. The school is located in a very rural area that had no direct access to water, with the nearest source being 2 hours away by vehicle. In 2020 we completed the construction of handwashing facilities including 14 taps! Through our delivery partner Ndoto in Action we have also successfully delivered hygiene and handwashing education progammes at this school. Students now have access to running water, soap and the knowledge to ensure safer hygiene practices. We also installed 12 x 5,000 litre water tanks at Maweni to ensure the sustainability and longevity of the handwashing stations. This is key to a long term impact on students health.

Finally…

At Made With Hope along with our wonderful partners Ndoto in Action, we continue to strive to improve access to education for the local communities. By providing these children with the ability to practice safe hygiene, they will not only have better health but this will result in less school missed due to illness. If you would like to donate to more projects in our Being Well programme please follow the link below.
